Set a daily driving ceiling
Decide how many hours of active driving feel comfortable after meals, stops and sightseeing. A nominal four-hour drive can occupy most of a day once construction, viewpoints and check-in are included.
Use shorter driving days when roads are unfamiliar, winter conditions are possible, or the route includes ferries.
Plan fuel and services
In populated southern corridors, services are frequent. In parts of Cote-Nord, Gaspesie, Abitibi-Temiscamingue and northern Quebec, gaps can be larger and opening hours more limited.
Refuel before the gauge becomes a problem, keep offline directions and carry seasonal emergency supplies.

Quebec 511 is the official source for road conditions, closures, work zones, warnings and traffic cameras. Ferry routes should be checked directly with the Societe des traversiers du Quebec or the operating carrier.
Do not rely on a saved route from weeks earlier when wildfire, flooding, snow or construction can change access.
