Public transit can remove parking stress, but each city has its own fares, passes, accessibility information and service patterns.
Montreal
The metro and bus network can support a full city trip. Choose accommodation near a useful line rather than simply near the geographic centre. Service disruptions and station accessibility should be checked live.
Quebec City
The historic core is walkable for many visitors, but hills, stairs and weather can change that assessment. Buses connect the broader city and some visitor areas.
Other cities
Laval, Gatineau, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivieres, Saguenay and other municipalities have local systems with different service levels. Evening and weekend frequency may be lower.
Regional limits
Public transit rarely replaces a car for a broad rural route. Build city segments without a car, then rent only for the regional portion when practical.
