Read the environment
Signs, menus, road information and public notices may be primarily in French. Prepare common travel vocabulary before the trip and use translation tools while stopped, not while driving.
Respect place names
Use the official names and accents when practical. In Indigenous communities, follow the community’s preferred names, visitor guidance and photography rules.
Service expectations
Do not assume every worker is bilingual. Speak clearly, remain patient and use written addresses or reservation details when needed.
