Indigenous nations and communities are living, diverse and contemporary. Visitors should seek experiences led by the people whose culture and territory are being presented.
Choose Indigenous-led sources
Indigenous Tourism Quebec provides a province-wide starting point for accommodations, cultural experiences, events and other community-linked offerings. Regional and community websites provide more specific guidance.
Follow protocols
- Respect photography restrictions
- Use community-preferred place and nation names
- Do not enter restricted areas
- Ask before recording people or ceremonies
- Follow environmental and harvesting rules
- Purchase directly from Indigenous artists when possible
Avoid one generalized story
Quebec includes multiple First Nations and Inuit communities with distinct languages, histories and contemporary realities. One attraction cannot represent them all.
Remote and northern planning
Some destinations require specialized transport, advance permission or community coordination. Do not improvise a visit based only on a road map.
